The Rev. Dr. James W. Hunter
Commissioned in 1976 in the U.S. Navy Supply Corps, the Lord called Fr. Hunter to ordination in 1978. He served parishes in New Jersey and South Carolina before testing a call as a Navy Chaplain in 1989. On active duty he served during Operation Desert Shield and Operation Desert Storm. 1991 saw Fr. Hunter stationed at the Little Creek Base, as the Chaplain of Amphibious Beach Group 2 with over 1,500 sailors and their families. In February 1992 Jim returned to parish life, serving parishes in Newton, North Carolina; Morgantown, North Carolina; and Virginia Beach, Virginia. Jim married Jeannine Macomber on June 12, 2001 in Virginia Beach, and subsequently served as Rector of the Episcopal Church of St. Mary, Albuquerque, New Mexico. Upon retirement on February 1, 2020, Jim and Jeannine moved to Virginia Beach, Virginia on March 28, 2020. Jim holds degrees from Tulane (BA), Virginia Theological Seminary (M.Div.) and his doctorate from Trinity School for Ministry (D.Min.).
